Cinema Concert & Social Evening 2013

On Sunday 22nd September 2013, a near capacity audience in Newton Stewart Cinema was treated to an entertaining and high quality performance by the band, the junior band and guest soloists.

The music played by the band ranged from Pictures at an Exhibition and Jubilation to 12th Street Rag and Bare Necessities while the young soloists Kyle Fitzsimmons and Rebekah Hughes shone with The Lazy Trumpeter and Latin Serenade respectively.

The second half was opened by the Junior group who once again received a huge ovation from the listeners and decided to start their encore without the conductor.

As a complete contrast to the band, a number of young wind players and vocalists were invited to play. They all performed to a high standard and helped make the concert a huge success.

This is the first time that the band has taken the Cinema as a concert venue. All the hard work in organising, publicising and rehearsing paid of in many ways.

The band has also had its annual social evening in the Ellangowan Hotel, on 4th October, at which the Junior progress shield was presented to Rebekah Hughes. The award of bandsman of the year went to Jack Norgate. Jack, the band secretary, has put much effort and time into securing a new uniform, helping to organise a raffle and other events to fund them, as well as carrying out his duties as secretary and Eb Bass soloist.
