Creetown celebrate 30 year partnership

A musical partnership that has lasted 30 years and hopes to go on for many more to come has been celebrated in Creetown.

Creetown Silver Band and conductor Stuart McNab have reached a landmark point in their long and rewarding history together.

They recently celebrated the 30 years since Stuart became the band’s conductor and MD, with members marking the occasion by presenting Stuart with a presentation baton and engraved decanter.

Stuart agreed to take up the post in 1983 following the resignation of conductor Alex McDowall. He had recently arrived in Newton Stewart to take up a teaching post at the Douglas Ewart High School—and hasn’t left since!

A spokesperson told 4BR: “Stuart has worked tirelessly for the band and our community and has nurtured and educated many youngsters and adults alike.

Creetown has gone through some lows but also many highs, and no matter what the situation Stuart has always been there to see us through, whether it was just 6 players in the practice room or 26.”
